Life in the City especially if the city is New York City

Its been long, hectic and eventful season of my stay in United States but its fun living out here. Life in the city is been fun till now. First of all, New York is no different in spirit than the city I lived in for 18 year, Mumbai. It has same multinationality, multi-ethnic and multi dimensions to it as Mumbai has, so it is feeling at being at home away from home.

The Similarities

Besides the spirit and being the commercial capitals of their individual countries, New York is eventful city with lot of things happening around every know and then. People here know how to party and have a great time. Every occasion is a celebration of life and fun, be it a Halloween, be it Thanksgiving or for that matter Nigerian Republic Day. Mumbai too has the same spirit that New York brings out. Every event in Mumbai too is a big celebration.

Second thing is the cosmopolitian backgrounds that people come from. There is an aura of cultural mix in the atmosphere around which I am used to see in Mumbai.

Mumbai was always know for friendly people, being bold and coming together in tough times. New York also is witnesses to those category of people. You can be termed as a Mumbaikar or New Yorker on one simple basis that you have an ability to strike up a conversation with anyone sitting right besides you on any topic.

The commutation is another thing that reminds me of life in mumbai. The trains in Mumbai are lifeline of the city. If anything happens to the trains or buses, the city cripples on its feet. Same applies to New York city. Subways and buses form the main transportation backbone to millions commuting in the city.

The Differences

The major difference only that I percieve is in the language and the manners and ofcourse the cleanliness. New York has far better lifestyle and cleanliness than Mumbai would ever have. Another thing is the professionalism seen in the people of New York city is simply amazing.

New York exhibits a lot of art and creativity in the lifestyle, buildings, infrastructures, museums and gallaries. Take for example Halloween day,New York Village Halloween parade, its by far the most creative parade ever seen anywhere for the Halloween and the amount of people participating in this parade is mind blowing. Two thumbs up to the creativity of the New Yorkers.

Overall, its not really a cultural shock if you are coming from Indian city of Dreams to United States City of Dreams.
Infact its more fun and at the same time more money and education here than it would be in living in Mumbai. I am starting not to miss Mumbai a lot off late. Perhaps thats my first step from being an Mumbaikar to New Yorker.

Touch Down Apt. - Settling down....

Hey all, well I am back this time with some good news....I have now found out an apt. in Jersey City. For the person who does not know to cook well and does not like american food Jersey City is the best place...you get everything indian you can think of from here...even the chai and thaplas...

The apt. is in good shape and the owner of the house also good. Apart from few starting hassles the shifting of our stuff into the new apt. went smooth. Rite now settling down into the new space which would hopefully be our home for 2 years. Getting into the american lifestyle was easy in the sense that we had our friends and family members here supporting us and giving us tips and info on various stuff out here. The basics dos and donts, the essentials and the manners. Not that we hadnt had any manners but in India nobody cared about it. Here they do..

The bonding between the 4 of us has improved since we have moved into the apt. Everyone has been doing there job and appearing mature. The main thing at the moment is everyone is supporting the other person and at the same time giving them space. At nights we hanged out on the streets of manhattan after the colleges hours for 2 days...today seemed to go very slow with no work to do and our assignments solved well before schedule...

Lets hope things dont go haywire for here and we stay together as we are staying now..signing off on good note see you next time with more pics of manhattan and me..

C'ya.

Finding an apt. - Great Task ahead....

For last few days, I have been getting up early in morning...getting the newspaper and reading all the classifieds regarding rent of an apt. Most of the time, the apt. classifieds are old coz whenever I used to call up they would reply back saying it has already been rented.

The othe way that my friend told me was to go street by street and see for the FOR RENT signs and then call up them or go search sites like craigslist.com or sulekha.com. Initially the street by street seemed good idea but as we roamed about the streets of Harrisson, NJ I came to know that it wasnt really good idea....not at all infact..coz streets here are like to long and everything is divided into blocks. Very organised but very long and big streets pattern. So moved onto the internet side of things...we saw craigslist and sulekha for two days approx. but to our bad luck we did not find good apt. Apartments in harrisson are much more larger and much more cleaner than apt. in Jersey City. But the major advantage that Jersey City has for Indians is the indian market and journal square station.

After consulting with lot of friends, I came to know that one of my college time seniors had an apt. which had room for 4 more people. We went to see the apt. yesterday. Location wise is preety awesome place to stay. Although the apt. is little tacky, still its livable...

We gonna finalise the deal today and hopefully move into it by 1st of september. After this episode gets over I would shift my attention in getting a good on-campus job.

Touch Down US of A

Well as most you must haven't know I have moved to US of A for my future studies. Its great time of my life and I am kinda enjoying the atmosphere and culture changes in US. Its a great place to live but little costly for a person staying in India. Our standard of living is lower but I can proudly say, there is nothing that can beat the Road side Indian food. I really miss eating Vada Pav on some road side stall for mere Rs. 4. Its hard to spend $1.50 = Rs. 65 for just one cold drink.

My trip to US was not as adventurous that I would have liked. To start off, my flight was 2 hours late from Mumbai itself. I had imaged to some sexy air hostess serving me fantastic food, snacks and wine. But to my utter discomfort the flight I got was AI 191[Air India]. I think the minimun qualifying age of Air hostess in Air India is above 30+. The hospitality is preety much Okay and the food is, at time, eatable. The main reason i choose Air India was I was allowed to carry almost 116kg worth of cargo on the plane. There was no such thing as entertainment. They had only few songs, that too only of Himesh Reshmaiyya, on the music side. The programmes contained only 100th old episode of some freaking english soap show. They kept Tom Dick and Harry in the second part of Journey.

My flight had stop at Charles De Gaulle Airport. I had heard great things about this airport and even read it in one of the Dan Brown's novel "Digital Fortess". But as life had it downside, I wasnt allowed to get down at the De Gaulle for security reason. I had to freaking sit for 1 and half hours in plane while it got ready for the journey over the atlantic.

Although there were downside but at the same time there were some upside of this flight too. This being my first flight to any International destination i was too excited to overcome all the downsides of flight. The view I had over the window was simply breathe taking. The view of alps when we flew over the Europe was awesome. I could clearly see the snow on mountain peaks, the valleys and the big roads winding down the mountains like a snake walk. The clear, blue and vibrant sky which I had never saw in smoke filled, noisy city like Mumbai, was something that I would cherish for a long time. The landing of Newark was preety awesome with houses lined in queue giving feel about how well planed the US cities are. The airport is one of its kinda. Simply awesome. Another upside was I got to see Amisha Patel in person. Well she looks more prettier in person than in few of her flop movies.

Right now, things are cool in here and weather is pleasant. I am on a hunt for an apt. which i can share with four of my colleagues. I am right now finding an apt. in Harrisson, NJ which is I must say a fantastic place to live. Very quite, very secure and very friendly. The houses are fantastic, spacious and very well maintained. I have seen some of the houses for rent which i really liked and will be deciding from one of them in a day or two.

I have also been to colllege in downtown Manhattan. My college ,NYIT, is one of the premier institutions out here and the Manhattan campus is located rite in heart of the Manhattan. We got central park right across the street if you know what I mean. Times Square is just blocks away.

People here are really helpfull and I find it difficult to match the formal conversation manners which lacks basically in India counterparts. The basic differences that I found in US as compared to India is that in US everything is huge, long and spacious. Other then that, I kinda find the same lifestyle of Mumbai as in NY. No wonder Mumbai is compared to New York all the time.

I will be blogging more of the experience of first few days in coming days. Do keep check TSATS for more fun, info and basic blah blah of the most Idiotic personality on Earth!

Microsoft announces India launch plans for Xbox 360

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) Tuesday said it will launch its next-generation video-game console Xbox 360 in India by October, aiming to capitalize on rising incomes in one of the world's fastest growing economies.

The company expects the Xbox 360 to drive sales over its key rivals, Sony Corp. (SNE) and Nintendo Co. (7974.OK) in the growing Indian market, said Mitch Koch, corporate vice president of global retail sales and marketing at Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division.
"Our target is to sell 5 million to 5.5 million Xbox 360's (globally) by June," Koch told a news conference.

"By June 2007, we will have over 6 million users. By 2007, we should be in over 40 countries," he added.

Retail bookings for the Xbox 360, which was initially launched in North America, Europe and Japan in late 2005, will commence from June 9 in seven cities in India, said Koch. Deliveries of the product will start by October.

He said India is among eight additional countries where the Xbox 360 will be introduced this year.

Microsoft is aiming to tap the modest but growing number of gamers in India to sell the Xbox 360, said Koch.

"The gaming culture is not fully developed in India. So, there is an opportunity to build the market," said Koch. He didn't provide a sales target for the Xbox in India, but said the company will offer financing options and other incentives to attract customers.

The Xbox 360 core system plus a game title will be priced at INR19,990, while the Xbox 360 system has been priced at INR23,990.

Ravi Venkatesan, chairman of Microsoft India said the economic boom in India has led to higher disposable incomes among youth and an increase in consumption, which will help drive sales of the Xbox 360.

He said there are an estimated 1.6 million active gamers in India, leaving ample for growth.

Da Losing Battle - Da Vinci Code Debate

This is too much for me to handle. The latest in trend of protesting come the BAN against screening of Da Vinci Code movie. The so called Christian Community writing letters to Information and Broadcasting ministry to stop screening Da Vinci Code in Indian theatres.

For as far as I know, after reading Da Vinci Code, I did not feel that it had any harm and anything close to being harmfull to christianity as a religion. Although, it terms Jesus being a married man and having bloodline to this date too. The book itself terms the events as work of Fiction then whats the problem with Indian Christian, the film is being screened across the US where their are 90% christians. From this I can jump to only one conclusion, some top authority in christian world just wants to show that they still should be considered a force to be accounted for and just want to get share of limelight.

According to me, this people are themselves betraying the basic principals of Chrisitianity. For christianity stands for tolerance, believes more in belief then imposing or protesting. It believes in coverting then banning. Thats the true meaning of Christian and its sons.

If the screening of Da Vinci Code goes accordingly and no ban is imposed, I would be surely one happy chap and still believe I live in secular country.

Stir against Quota : Rang De Basanti Style : Go Meds!

If anybody was at Azad Maidan yesterday, he would surely said this is same as the Rang De Basanti scene. Police beating the protesting students, who were not agitating or by any means out of control. It was a peaceful agitation aka Gandhi style where the Police acted as Britishers. Not even the handicapped were pardoned. The handicap people standing at side of protest where also given blows by the constables.

The girls where beaten and then taken to Police station with not a single women constable with them. Whereas the Indian law clearly constitutes that women should only be arrested with women constable present. Where was the law when the brutal policemen were beating them.

After this episode, the protest by any means has got more powerful and more vigorous. Kudos to those strong Meds who have felt to responsibility of agitating against the unjust quota law.

But more importantly, where are the other faculty students [ Commerce, Arts, Engg. ] Are they all sleeping, dont they have any responsibility towards the society. Why are they not standing besides the Meds who have shown such a rigor.

Only time will tell if the sacrifice and perservarence of Meds survive or once again the political game will win.

Indians Search more for SEX and Americans for God - Google Trends

Recently I came to know about the Google's new offering, Google Trends. Like any other person, I had an erge to see what other people are searching for and which keyword is been searched more than any other.

To my surprise, the most searched keyword from indians is SEX. Yes, you heard it right, SEX. But I am not surprised a bit by this result, the reason being Indian parent not being open about this topic. With the population of more than 1 billion people, I must say, we do require some info. as well on the SEX. From other point of view, this result may be seen as optimistic if we assume that this may be search for awarness towards Aids. Whatever may be the reasons, SEX is supreme for Indians even in Google.

Another interesting result was for the word GOD, this is most searched by US population according to GOOGLE TRENDS. Again, why am I not surprised. Americans are know bored with the materialistic side of life and are in search for peace. The US state with most searches for GOD is Tampa, Florida.

Nice going, Google. Again, you have given us some interesting and odd results. People, do visit Google Trends, its nice offering from Google.

Regards,

Web Artist.

India and US to explore the Moon

Proud to be an Indian. What a great honour the Americans got by considering the Space collaboration with Indians. I think US have now essentially recognised the importance of small but very powerfull developing nation such as India. Its shows in the new stance the US government is taking towards India. Hopefully, this stays on for betterment of both the sides.

Amen.

The Moon
India is also considering a manned mission to the Moon
India and the US are to conduct joint research experiments on the Moon.

Under an accord between the countries' space agencies, India's first unmanned lunar mission will carry two scientific payloads from the US agency, Nasa.

Indian officials called the deal a "milestone". The Indian spacecraft is due to be launched in early 2008.

The Nasa instruments will scan the Moon's surface for minerals and ice. Devices from the European Space Agency and Bulgaria will also be on board.

Today is an important milestone in the co-operation between Nasa and Isro
Isro Chairman Madhavan Nair

The deal is being seen as another sign of increasingly close ties between Washington and Delhi after years of Cold War suspicion.

Earlier this year, the two countries finalised a landmark deal on civilian nuclear co-operation.

The US and India have also agreed to co-operate in civil space, including areas such as space exploration, satellite navigation and Earth science.

'Partnership'

Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) chairman Madhavan Nair signed the agreement with Nasa chief Michael Griffin in the southern Indian city of Bangalore.

"Today is an important milestone in the co-operation between Nasa and Isro," Mr Nair told reporters.

Mr Griffin said the pact was "an important partnership to advance the exploration of the Moon".

"The two-year mission of Chandrayaan-I to map the lunar surface and investigate its surface properties will advance knowledge about the Moon's history and evolution, and inform future exploration decisions by characterising the content of the lunar soil," he said.

This was the first visit by a Nasa chief to India in 30 years. The US imposed an embargo on Isro, following India's nuclear tests in 1998.

Mr Nair urged the US to lift certain sanctions that are still in place and allow more high-tech imports.

'No seats'

Chandrayaan-I would be launched in early 2008 from Sriharikota on India's east coast, Mr Nair said.

The European Space Agency (Esa) will also deploy four scientific instruments aboard the spacecraft, which will orbit the Moon at a distance of 100km (62 miles).

On the subject of a manned Indian mission to the Moon, Mr Nair said no decision had been taken.

And asked whether the US might fly an Indian astronaut on one of its space shuttles, Mr Griffin said "we can train but we don't have any seats for the next eight years".

India...world's best emerging market !?

India has emerged as the world's most attractive destination for mass merchant and food retailing, maintaining its 2005 position in an annual study of retail investment attractiveness among 30 emerging markets.

India was given the top ranking in management consulting company A T Kearney's 2006 Global Retail Development Index (GRDI).

"The Indian retail market is gradually but surely opening up, while China's market becomes increasingly saturated", said Fadi Farra, a principal in A T Kearney's Consumer Industries and Retail Practice and leader of the GRDI study.

Much to the surprise of market observers, China was ranked fifth in this year's tally, declining one more place since 2005. While China remains very attractive, the market is becoming increasingly saturated as international retailers rush to establish a presence and build market share, the study reveals.

According to the study, Asia with a large 40 per cent of the top 20 markets has surpassed Eastern Europe as the 'dominant region for global retail expansion.'

"The learning is that timing is the most important source of competitive advantage for global and regional retailers in the globalization race. Knowing when to enter emerging retail markets is the key to success," said Farra.

Powering Asia's charge are Vietnam, which has risen five places to third place, and countries like Thailand, South Korea and Malaysia, all of which are in the top 15, the report said.

After topping the ranking for two consecutive years in 2003 and 2004, Russia slipped to second place behind India last year and remained there in 2006 too.

SketchUp: Google's Latest Cool Free Download

SketchUp, a 3D drawing application which Google released today, is the latest example of a happy, booming software trend: Google or Yahoo buys an innovative small company which makes a for-pay product, and quickly releases a cool free version of its software.

In this case, the innovative company was @Last Software, and SketchUp truly is cool, since it makes the notoriously difficult job of drawing 3D architectural models surprisingly easy. In its Google iteration, it's a complement to Google Earth, one which lets that amazing program's community of fans build and share buildings to be incorporated into its virtual world.

The application comes with bountiful documentation and tutorials, but the user interface is so simple and intuitive that I started to build rudimentary 3D structures even before I'd consulted the help system. I wouldn't want to live in the house below, but it took me about three minutes to put together:

sketchup-house.jpg

But you can have fun with SketchUp without constructing anything from scratch, because it's easy to grab models from Google's 3D Warehouse, a searchable online repository of objects, including excellent recreations of lots of real-world landmarks. (You can also upload your creations to the Warehouse.) Here's one example of a ready-made model:

sketchup-disney

And here's San Francisco's AT&T Park (nee SBC Park, nee Pacific Bell park) as it looks after being imported into SketchUp:

sketchup-atandt.jpg

This is not a review of SketchUp, since I've only played with a bit so far. But so far I'm impressed. I've fiddled with consumer-oriented 3D drawing programs since about 1988, and SketchUp is about the least intimidating one I've ever seen. Which makes Google an entirely appropriate home for it.

As with Google Earth, by the way, there's still an industrial-strength version of SketchUp aimed at professionals, at an industrial-strength pricetag: $495. The free version is Windows-only at the moment, but a Mac edition is on the way.

Email Best Practices Pay Off

Email marketing remains a vital part of the online marketing mix, despite its ups and downs over the years and continued spam and phishing. Its business marketing success is due to its effectiveness in driving revenue, developing customer relationships and promoting your brand.

Users find it an amazingly effective communication service. As a marketing strategy in its mature phase, email marketing has established some effective best practices.

Use Permission Email

At the core of these best practices is permission-based email marketing, which continues to be the de facto standard for both acquisition and retention messages. Permission email requires prior affirmative consent as defined by the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act and the European Commission's Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive.

eMarketer reports that email marketing best practices are not widely followed. Double opt-in is the preferred best practice because it requires a second action to activate the subscription. A confirmation message is sent requiring a reply for verification. This ensures that the email address was actually subscribed.

Other practices include single opt-in and opt-out. Single opt-in merely requires sending a web form or other web-based request. No confirmation or verification is required so users can be subscribed without their knowledge if someone else provides their email address. Opt-out requires the user to remove the check from a pre-checked box to avoid being subscribed. Many users don't notice this and are subscribed to lists without their knowledge.

Use Double Opt-In

In spite of best practices and prior consent laws, 39 percent of B2B and B2C marketers still use opt-out email marketing practices when gathering email addresses. This was revealed in a recent study conducted by Direct and Multichannel Merchant magazines.

The study found that 60 percent of B2C marketers and 26 percent of B2B marketers use non-recommended single opt-in strategies, while only 7 percent and 3 percent, respectively, use the best-practices double opt-in method.

We think that business buyers are more tolerant of single opt-in strategies. For one, the buyers need information from vendors. Additionally, buyers are quite accepting of any email address that might be valid.

This may or may not be true, but at any rate, an easy unsubscribe option should be provided upfront with subsequent action taken promptly to remove the recipient from the list.

A significant problem with an opt-out strategy is that most companies don't know how to properly handle opt-outs in order to make it a win-win for both recipients and senders. An industry study of retail email marketers found that only 12 percent of the companies surveyed provided customers with the option of changing their preferences before opting out. Not only that, few companies had an opt-out plan that allowed them to mine valuable information and leave a positive impression with opt-out recipients.

It is a mistake not to try to learn why your customers want to leave. Chances are that if you probe with appropriate questions, most recipients will give candid reasons for leaving your list. Some might even reconsider if you give them a good value proposition.

Use Auto-Responders

Best practice is to send an email auto-response within 24 hours of receiving customer inquiries. This is normally followed by a subsequent message addressing the inquiry.

A recent JupiterResearch report shows that 92 percent of retailers provide email customer support, but only 41 percent acknowledge receipt of the customer inquiry with an immediate auto-response message. What's worse, 39 percent take three days or longer to reply or fail to respond at all. While trends indicate a significant decrease in auto-acknowledgement responses, this can damage your customer loyalty and retention rates.

The Jupiter report ascribed this to (1) a continued rise in email volume and (2) a failure to invest in email technology capable of handling large volumes of email. The downside of this is that it often results in consumers contacting call centers by phone, which costs the retailer more money. While many think the cost of adding auto-responders is prohibitive, this can become manageable when pitted against the long-term cost of lost customers due to a lack of response.

Use Retention Messages

Industry research reports that almost half of the consumers surveyed said they would not conduct future business with companies exhibiting poor email practices (Merkle|Quris). Yet, this same study reports that over 57 percent of these consumers made purchases resulting from email messages.

This means that your email practices can make or break you, either encouraging a desired action or driving customers away. We suggest that you track customers over time, analyzing the history of their open, click and purchase behavior. Using that data, you can send retention messages to communicate with customers individually, further addressing their needs with customized messages that indicate you value their business. These retention messages will nurture the relationship, paving the way for future acquisition messages. Today's Web analytics enable you to leverage visitor segmentation and conversion data to better target specific customers on future campaigns.

The Forrester Research report, Email Metrics Beyond Open and Clicks, states that basic email metrics will not give you the whole story. Open, click, and bounce rates measure the operational aspects of your email campaign, but not its impact on consumers or the campaign's business results. Therefore, it is important to measure customer engagement, tracking changes over time to anticipate future behavior.

Manage Customer Relationships

Conventional wisdom states that past behavior predicts future intentions. This is also true in most marketing channels.

In the case of email marketing, you can segment and target customers based on key behavioral variables -- such as frequency of mailings, topical relevancy, content quality and privacy -- to maximize customer engagement depending on past behavior. Bottom line: Email marketers must give the customer what s/he wants and expects – they are in the driver's seat.

Managing online customer relationships requires an understanding of the consumer's behavioral patterns, both for future marketing activity, and perhaps more importantly, to identify consumer dissatisfaction. Overlooking customer discontent can lead to the loss of a customer, not just an unsubscribe caused by the wrong email message.

Send Relevant Messages

The importance of following email best practices cannot be overstated. Your ability to do so will affect the return on investment (ROI) for your email campaigns.

Email is a double-edged sword; people love it but they hate spam. So marketers need to ensure that their messages are wanted. You can only do that by getting to know your customers and sending them relevant messages. Four tips for leveraging your email ROI are:

  • Use permission with double opt-in
  • Send relevant messages
  • Don't send too often
  • Test your messages to learn what works

Win With Best Practices

As a final word, retailers and B2B marketers are reminded that if they ignore best practices, it is at their peril -- particularly when it comes to those involving permission, opt-in vs. opt-out and the courtesy of immediate auto-responders to customer inquiries.

Sensex crosses 10000 mark - Future Predictions on this mad BULL?

Hello again people, its been long since I posted something stupid in this blog of mine. Do know why I created it in first place was continuously pressing F5 in hope that something refreshing would show up in this blog, but ah well, it never did. (Sorry for the PJ here) Just my weird senseless humor or is it humour...Damn its too confusing.

Ok, enough of the non sense talk, now lets get to some seriously senseless talk, the BSE index!

I was on my way to grab some Vada Pav ( Indian version of Burger - atleast that's what I call ) when the news of sensex reaching 10002 got onto my phone somehow yesterday. Well, I was not surprised at all, with Indian budget coming up and Government riding high on 'India Shining' bandwagon, this was ought to happen. Today the sensex showed even more momentum and climbed up to 10082.28 with the high close to 10096 . Let me get it straight, I no marketing guru nor am I some weirdo whose has no knowledge of what 2+2 is ( BTW, is it 5? :s) but 1 thing I know surely is, my instincts, that never fail me in this volatile market and that tell me this is truly another mad bull run.

I would gain causiously in this market if I were to invest some money right now and even after some correction of sorts. I wouldn't be surprised if the correction as huge as 1500 comes around the corner, probably pre-budget or post-budget, but it would come for sure. One thing in this market is for sure, its highly over-valued market right now. Imagine, 3 years back, who would have thought that sensex would rise so high, so early, however some of the industry experts did predict this coming, but that were just mere 'predictions' and not any firm analysis of any sorts. I think it is the foreign investments that are pumping up the bull market.

India, at 16 times earnings, is among the most expensive emerging markets in the world. Of course, compared to GCC stock indices, the most expensive bourses on the planet, the Sensex overvaluation is small potatoes.

With the budget coming soon and the deficits of the rise, Government has lot of tough task ahead in forthcoming days. Will the deficit of 6 billion dollars overshadow the marvelous 8% GDP growth? Will the 60$/ barrel oil be the big hurdle in Dr. Manmohan Singh's 'Manmohanomics' ?
All this only time can tell.

One thing I would put a light on is the increasing salaries in the Industries. This would have a major effect in coming days to the industry giants like Wipro and Infosys. Reason? Their profit margins would decrease and hence their share values too as the operating cost would increase considerably and with the pace they are hiring up professional, it sure sound the other way round.

So I sit here in front of my computer commenting this senseless discussion and sipping on cup of coffee, the Bull market gets ready for the another eventful and volatile day ahead.
